PH Design provided infrastructure design for the reconfiguration of Car Park J as part of a wider project.
The RIBA Stage 3 was taken through the various client gateways to construction. Design checks for vehicle turning were made identifying areas were the design was to be revised.
We worked with the client and contractor to provide foundation design for new cabins, white lining design for the new configuration and setting out drawings to enable construction.
PH Design were asked to review the wind loading on an existing steel frame which required retrofit panels to allow its continued use.
In the absence of the original design we worked from first principles to calculate design loads and connection forces for the existing frame which was used by the client for safety critical training to prepare flight crew before working in a live environment. Additional panels were to be added to the steel frame altering the forces on the members and connections.
Following assessment, we were able to design the new elements as well as justify the existing structure by added bracing new wind panels to meet the required architectural design.
